Energy rates

The charged price is the base rate plus its adjustment. Adjustments carry fuel and rider costs and are frequently most of the bill, so a comparison built on the base rate alone is meaningless.

Effective rate includes the fixed charge, which is why it falls as usage rises. This is a time-of-use tariff, so the result also depends on when power is used; an average residential pattern is assumed. Details →

This Schedule is available when electric service is used for domestic purposes in and about (1) a residential dwelling unit, including electric service used on a farm and in the preparation of the farm's products for market, or (2) a family care home. A residential dwelling unit served under this Schedule may be used as a boarding house, fraternity house, tourist home, or like establishment, provided such residential dwelling unit is one which ordinarily would be used as a private residence. A family care home is defined as a home with support and supervisory personnel that provides room and board, personal care and habilitation services in a family environment for not more than six resident handicapped persons. Detached garages, barns, or other structures that are primarily used for residential purposes that are located on the same premise as the separate residential dwelling unit may be served under any applicable Residential Schedule. Service under this Schedule is not available for processing (or handling) for market of farm products produced by others; for separately metered domestic or farm operations; for individual motors in excess of 10 HP (in exceptional cases, motors as large as 15 HP may be served upon approval by the Engineering Department); for commercial or industrial purposes; for other uses not specifically provided for by the provisions herein; or for resale service, except as provided for in Chapter 22 of the Commission Rules regarding the provision of electric service by landlords.
